Here is yet another Sanity Saving tip from SHEENA NOELLE
As your baby is screaming, your dog is barking, and your partner is giving you a blank, yet mortified stare -you have about 2 seconds to calm everyone down. Sigh, it’s exhausting just thinking about it. How do I calm my baby down?! And, what’s wrong in the first place? How can I fix ‘it’ when I don’t know what ‘it’ is? ……….. And fussy aint ‘it’!
Try these all naturals ways to soothe into bliss!
TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, FIRST
Start your morning with a few quick calming methods so you can set the pace for a serene day. Allow at least 3 deep breathes, In and Out. Use a few drops of Rescue Remedy to calm yourself and pets. Dab a pinch of lavender essential oil body balm on your wrists and other pulse points.
PROBIOTICS Pro- what? Remember this word!!
P R O B I O T I C S.
This is a ‘good’ bacteria or yeast that helps balance a baby’s sensitive, growing GI tract. Moms can find this in yogurt or supplements. For baby, the most common form of probiotic comes in a fine white powder. This can be mixed with breast milk or formula and given to baby. PLEASE consult with your natural health care provider for specific details on how and when to give baby this truly miracle substance. This is not an instant cure, it will take some time but the results are worth it.
A BREASTFEEDING MOM’S DIET & FORMULA
To all the nursing moms out there….. consult with your health care provider about your diet. Your baby may not like what you are eating. Try to experiment with your foods to see if there is a signifigant change once you have eliminated something harsh like antacids or added something calming like probiotics to your diet.
To all the moms using formula…..Try a hydrolyzed whey protein-based formula for baby. This is a favorite among my friends. Also, stay away from soy formula. If you have any question as to why look up the ingredients in your soy formula. What exactly is in it? You may be surprised.
INFANT MESSAGE
Block out a few minutes after each diaper change to give a proper rub down. Grab a fuzzy, washable blanket that you don’t mind getting oil on. Get an organic oil or lotion, nothing with a strong scent. Lightly oil your hands and rub baby, don’t douce the baby in oil.
Start with one palm under the chin, fingers are facing the baby’s shoulder. Gently & Slowly make fluid strokes from your baby’s chest to their diaper. Next, bend your baby’s knee so that their heel and tush line up. With that bent leg, guide their thigh to the tummy and let it rest there. Take the other leg into the same position. Now that both legs are resting on the tummy begin to slowly start a mini bicycle pattern. To Finish, use your whole hand to make gentle clockwise circles along the belly button.
SERENITY NOW!
Enlist the help of friends and family to turn your home (haha-more likely one room) into a tranquil resort. Try to acknowledge all the senses- Smell, Touch, Hear, See, Taste. Have soft forms of lighting in the room. Play calming music on the radio or your favorite relaxing cd’s. Make sure the room is not bombarded with strong smells- diapers, lotions, air freshners, it can all be overwhelming. Keep soft pillows, blankets, etc. in every corner since you’ll be moving around lots.
